The Blue Grass Army Depot, Richmond, Kentucky, Maintenance/Demilitarization Division renovates 105MM/155MM rounds through the recap process at Building 555. One component of this renovation process is a requirement to perform Digital Radiographic Imaging (X-Ray) inspection of the processed rounds. To accomplish this, an X-Ray inspection system has been installed and integrated into the munitions renovation line at Building 555 in the Ammunition Restricted Area of the depot. This equipment must be operational to prevent renovation line down time, which would result in loss of production, and failure to support customer requirements. Support for regular preventive maintenance, as well as on call support for unscheduled maintenance and repair services, is required to ensure this equipment is available to support production. The Government has determined that the X-ray Preventative Maintenance can only be provided from the original source, VJ Technologies (VJT), as this is a follow-on requirement for the continued provision of highly specialized services. The award of original X-Ray was 100% set-aside for small business. W52P1J-12-P-3013 was awarded to VJ Technologies, a Small Business, on 30 March 2012. As such, VJ Technologies is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the X-Ray system currently in use at BGAD. The Preventative Maintenance can be provided by the commercial marketplace, however, there is only one source that has the proprietary knowledge and ability to provide the necessary X-Ray Preventative Maintenance for this system.
