The U.S. Army intends to issue a Request for Proposal for the manufacture and delivery of 5.56mm M1042 and M1071 marking ammunition cartridges. This is a planned sole-source, firm fixed price contract to Ultimate Training Munitions of the United Kingdom for full-scale production, with a possible maximum delivery of 255 million cartridges. The contract will have five one-year ordering periods from Fiscal Year 2026 through 2031. A formal solicitation is anticipated to be issued on or about 5 March 2026. The ammunition is a non-lethal, marking type for use in converted weapons within the Close Combat Mission Capability Kit system.
