This is a Sources Sought (SS) issued by the Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), Armaments Center (AC), Munitions Engineering & Technology Center (METC) and Aeroballistics Division. This effort is for information to pan a potential acquisition strategy and contract for a wind tunnel heater. The effort supports a wind tunnel facility in building 266. Responders to this SS notice are asked to provide statements with the following information related to meeting requirements: A narrative explaining the company’s background, and past/current experience relevant to furnishing and installing wind tunnel heaters. The target temperature range required would be between 500°F for a Mach 5.0 condition to 800°F for a Mach 6.5 condition. If temperatures can exceed 800F, that would provide margin for the system to accommodate future higher velocity testing. For the inlet into the heater, this system is not expected to run in less-than-ideal weather conditions. The minimum temperature of air into the heater is about 0°C or 32°F. The pipe diameter for the current heater is 10 inches, and up to 100ft of piping will separate the heater from conditions in the wind tunnel (point of usage). The available voltage for this system is 480V3-Phase. Once the details are confirmed on the process conditions above, we can give you the rough KW requirement which will determine the overall amperage requirement. Your firm will then be able to verify that amount of amperage is available on site. This is a SS for market research purposes. Any response to this SS is at the sole-discretion of the contractor.
