The U.S. Army Contracting Command - New Jersey (ACC-NJ), on behalf of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center (CCDC-AC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, is conducting market research to determine the capability of businesses to provide One (1) Internal Diameter (ID) Grinding Machine, along with associated equipment, installation and training, to support the prototype manufacturing of large caliber cannon tubes. This machine shall be a CNC controlled, horizontal, hollow spindle, precision, contour grinding machine capable of rough and finish grinding on large caliber cannon tubes. Cannon tube material will be 4340 alloy steel hardened to Rc 38-42 and may or may not be chrome plated. Cannon tubes may be up to 25” in outer diameter, 60’ in length, weigh up to 35,000 lbs, and have internal grinding depths of up to 90”. The machine shall be capable of grinding cannon tubes while their centerline is offset by up to 0.375”. This procurement shall be a complete turn-key project with the contractor providing the machine, tooling, and a part loading and unloading mechanism by which the work pieces described above could be loaded onto the machine via overhead crane.
