The U.S. Army Contracting Command - New Jersey (ACC-NJ), on behalf of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center (CCDC-AC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, is conducting market research to determine the capability of businesses to provide One (1) Guided Bore Machine, along with associated equipment, installation, training and maintenance, to support the prototype manufacturing of large caliber cannon tubes. This machine would be capable of counter boring a large diameter through hole in alloy steel cannon tubes that would have an as-forged inside diameter (ID) that would be non-concentric to the machined outside diameter (OD). This would be a combination of out of round condition and relative straightness of the as-forged ID to the machined OD. If a tube, held on the OD, is rotated within the confines of a machine centerline while the bore wanders into an eccentric position, the cutting head that is producing the bore will be forced to move in an orbital pattern. The machine capability being assessed in this notice would be able to compensate for that condition and correct during the cutting process to produce an ID that is concentric to the OD of the tube. Tubes in this case would range from 20 to 60 feet in length and have finished bores from 6 to 12 inches in diameter. The expected total indicated runout of the ID to the OD at any given location is between 0.100 and 0.350 inches. BACKGROUND: The applicable NAICS code for this requirement is 333517 - Machine Tool Manufacturing with a Small Business Size Standard of 500 employees. The Product Service Code is 3419 Miscellaneous Machine Tools. Businesses of all sizes are encouraged to respond; however, each respondent must clearly identify their business size in their capabilities statement.
