The Virology & Emerging Infections Department of the U.S. Naval Medical and Research Unit No. 6 (NAMRU-6) conducts spatial analysis of epidemiological data from infectious diseases for disease transmission modelling….. In order to perform these activities, an autoclave is required. There is only one functioning autoclave in N6 due to the renovation and is being used by the entire command for sterilization needs. The calibration was due in 2020 but was not completed due to the pandemic. Since that time, financial issues have prevented performance of the calibration and now it has been four years since the last calibration. As a piece of medical equipment, this autoclave needs to be calibrated every two years to ensure proper function and prevention of equipment failure. With the ANFAC’s increased number of animal-use protocols, it is vital that this machine is calibrated as soon as possible. Specialized technicians will come to perform preventive maintenance on the autoclave making sure that it is calibrated properly. Each package the technician brings will contain certain recommended parts for replacement that should be changed on an annual basis with authentic OEM Parts that has a full 90-day warranty. Maintenance is supposed to be completed every 2 years with the last one being due in 2020. The vendor who produced this autoclave, Steris Corporation, must complete the calibration.
