The Virology & Emerging Infections Department of the U.S. Naval Medical and Research Unit No. 6 (NAMRU-6) performs febrile and respiratory surveillance in study sites around Peru and Latin America with the objective of collecting human samples for the detection of pathogens. In order to meet study objectives, VEID researchers need to ship a large variety of laboratory supplies for collecting and testing respiratory and blood samples and equipment such as laboratory freezers to study sites around Peru so they have all materials ready for sample collection and processing. Furthermore, it is necessary to transport all samples collected so far from domestic study sites to NAMRU-6.
