Naval Medical Logistics Command (NMLC) has a requirement for research support services for the Naval Medical Research Unit Six (NAMRU-6), located in Lima, Peru. The requirement is to conduct a study entitled: “Characterization of the infectious causes of acute febrile and exanthematous illness in Latin America”, which is aimed at determining the etiology of febrile and/or exanthematous disease syndromes in a variety of counties throughout Latin America, including Paraguay. Surveillance performed by NAMRU-6 over the past two decades has been instrumental in characterizing the burden of endemic tropical diseases throughout the region. The purpose of this acquisition is to provide research and development services in Mariscal Estigarribia, Paraguay, located in the El Chaco region, where Hantavirus is endemic, in support of the study: “Characterization of the infectious causes of acute febrile and exanthematous illness in Latin America”.
