The government conducts research wideband photonic subsystems. The government is also entrusted to perform hardware validation, test and demonstration of both externally procured and internally designed subsystems, in order to see if they can meet warfighter needs. Due to the inherently wideband nature of photonics, the hardware can operate to frequencies higher than 40 GHz. In order to properly characterize the performance of these devices, 40+ GHz test equipment is required. Specifically a 40+ GHz vector signal source is needed. This piece of equipment will allow the government to accurately and reliably validate the performance of these new circuits. It will also allow the government to explore new regions of research interests.
