The axle assembly is a device suspended between and connecting opposite wheels. It supports the weight of a vehicle, and consists of the housing and axles, and may include the driving differential mechanism. This automotive axle assembly is a critical component to the entire M915 fleet. With this axle, the power generated by the engine is carried through the transmission and driveshaft, which then goes through the differential and is ultimately transferred into the wheels, propelling the vehicle either forward or backwards. The axle acts as the mounting point for the wheels and differential and without it, the power generated by the powertrain would never make it to the wheels. Unlike other axles that can be considered a commercial off the shelf (COTS) product, this axle has been specifically designed to mount to the chassis and the wheels seen on this range of vehicles.
