The subject requirement is for the procurement of 100 Metric tons of abrasive blast media, more specifically, the GMAX GX2 Garnet Blasting Media. Per AUL 9B-5350-HM-CN0-8476, the blasting grit is on a Qualified Product List (QPL) and has specific ordering data requirements. The grit is manufactured by GMA Garnet USA and is the only blasting media that is authorized and approved for use on Norfolk Naval Shipyard, per the QPL. The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard currently utilizes this specific blast grit to clean the hulls of the ships. The shipyard has approved GMA’s ToughBlast™ garnet abrasive media because it is the most diverse blend of garnet engineered for the most demanding coating removal jobs, up to 30 mil. The material has a unique blend of both alluvial and hard rock garnet and is exceptionally ideal for ship hulls.
