RFI - Novel or Multifunctional Fibers, Yarns, Coatings/Finishes and Fabrics for Soldier Protection and Comfort (MFFYF)
The Army DEVCOM Soldier Center, in coordination with PdM SCIE, is seeking information on potential sources of multifunctional fibers, yarns, fabrics, coatings, or finishes for Soldier protection and thermal/physical comfort, including near-term TRL 5–7+ drop-in solutions and far-term TRL 2–4 exploratory concepts. Submissions are of higher interest if they provide at least two functionalities—such as moisture management, thermal protection/barriers, water/ice/chemical repellency, vector protection, or flame resistance—and all approaches must be PFAS-free and durable to laundering or abrasion. Near-term solutions must meet DoD human-health toxicity and dermal-contact safety requirements and avoid cyclic siloxanes, silicones, and heavy-metal catalysts, while FR near-term next-to-skin materials must exceed specified ASTM D6413 performance. Physical samples—full-width fabric, yarn/fiber cones or skeins, or coated/finished NYCO fabric—must be shipped to DEVCOM Soldier Center, 15 General Greene Avenue, Building 4, Room 202, Natick, MA 01760, and will undergo destructive testing and not be returned. This is a sources-sought announcement only, not a solicitation or contract-award commitment; clarifying questions may be emailed until 18 December 2026 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
