May 10, 2022, original RFI issued. The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) in support of the development and demonstration of technology for autonomous Terminal Area Operations (TAO) for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). For the purpose of this RFI, TAO is defined as start, taxi, takeoff, departure, formation rejoin, sequenced recovery, approach, landing, taxi, and shutdown operations within Class B/C/D or equivalent controlled airspace. TAO includes operations in the Contiguous United States (CONUS) within the National Airspace System (NAS) as well as outside Contiguous United States (OCONUS) international airspace. Technologies unveiled or developed through this line of effort are envisioned to be foundational for fully autonomous UAS operations. This RFI seeks information on available technologies in support of this goal and identification of technological gaps. See attachment for further information.
