CAPACITY ON A UHF-CAPABLE ON-ORBIT MEO SATELLITE
This RFI seeks access to bandwidth on a commercially owned, operated UHF-capable MEO satellite for a near-term experimental campaign to characterize spectrum, waveforms, and user equipment, demonstrate interoperability with the existing GEO constellation, and inform a pathway for augmenting or replacing GEO UHF capabilities. The government prioritizes solutions that leverage existing space vehicle and payload capabilities to provide on-orbit service as soon as possible, with an Initial Launch Capability (ILC) by 2030 considered potentially useful but earlier approaches strongly desired. The prototype is intended as an initial step and may not represent a final future architecture. An amendment, dated 23 July 2026, corrects the uplink and downlink frequency bands and replaces the original attachment with an updated version. All other RFI content remains unchanged.
