Title: NOAA Gauge House Replacement – Ogdensburg, NY Classification Code: Y1JZ NAICS Code: 237990 Other Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction Is this a Recovery and Reinvestment Act Action?: No Primary Point of Contact: Dean Liguori Contract Specialist Dean.Liguori@usace.army.mil Secondary Point of Contact: MAJ Derek Gibson Contracting Officer Derek.S.Gibson@usace.army.mil Description: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District is seeking firms that have the capability to provide construction services for providing the demolition and construction of the NOAA Gauge House in Ogdensburg, NY. The Ogdensburg gauge house is located at the foot of Caroline Street on an existing seawall adjacent to the St. Lawrence River in the City of Ogdensburg, NY. The original gauge house, installed in 1948, was a small wooden single story structure approximately 5’ long by 5’ wide and 6’ tall supported by a 4’1” by 4’1” square steel sheet pile (SSP) stillwell on the landside of the original timber crib seawall. The intake pipe is a 4” diameter steel pipe that was originally placed between the horizontal timber members 13’ below the top of the piling. The original design plan/drawing is attached to the end of this document. The gauge house has been re-sided and re-roofed multiple times and now consists of aluminum or asbestos siding and asphalt shingles. See Figure 2 for an image of the current gauge house. Additional Pictures can be found at the NOAA site for the Ogdensburg gauge house.[1] This gauge house is in poor condition and will need to be demolished completely. A new gauge house will be built in its place. It will be larger than the existing gauge house and will be modelled after the NOAA gauge houses located in Holland, MI and Algonac, MI, pictured in Figures 3 and 4 below. The new Ogdensburg gauge house will be similar the Holland gauge house aesthetically and the Algonac gauge house with respect to the elevated building foundation and stair access. Additional pictures of these two sites the NOAA site.[2] The project would require placement of a new gauge house over a single well with a floor separating the two. The gauge house would be a 10’ by 10’ brick building with a concrete building foundation and the sump for the stillwell would consist of a 6-foot diameter precast concrete manhole. Foundation design is presently unknown and may consist of embedded steel sheet pile, h-piles, or other foundation techniques. The project will also include installation of a new intake pipe, a MET tower concrete foundation pad, and water monitoring instrumentation.
