Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse (RAST) system is currently the helicopter recovery system used on Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruisers (CG), and Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG-51 Flight II & III). RAST system is used to assist the helicopters during landing, for securing them to the deck, traversing in and out of their hangars and launching with maximum safety up to and including sea state five (5). As the helicopter prepares to land, the systems Rapid Securing Device (RSD) latches onto (captures) the helicopter mounted probe located on the helicopter’s lower frame. Once the probe is latched, the RAST system is then used to traverse the helicopter into and out of the hangar. The objective of this Contract is to provide Technical (0109) & Engineering Services (0110) Support for the RAST System at the BIW Shipyard (SUPSHIP Bath). General familiarization of the RAST system for participants that have limited background to include engineers, quality assurance engineers, electricians and operating mechanics. Checklist/procedure for ILO and review of current testing and prerequisites to ensure everything needed is captured for ILO. Operator training during testing, to include safety aspects of both personnel and equipment. Testing support to include technical assistance during troubleshooting.
