The Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC Pacific) MK18 project Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) Family of Systems (FoS) consists of a Mod 1 (REMUS 100 based UUV also known as Swordfish) and a Mod 2 (REMUS 600 based UUV also known as Kingfish), and associated hardware and software that allow vehicle handling, transport, communications, mission planning and post mission data retrieval in support of Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Very shallow Water (VSW) and Shallow Water (SW) Mine Countermeasures (MCM), Homeland Defense (HLD) and other Navy operations. The MK18 Mod 1 is currently fielded. The MK18 Mod 2 is currently deployed as a prototype capability in limited quantities in both Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) locations.
