The Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery requires (6) individual Trace with AMP subscriptions to provide the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) and Navy Medicine operational headquarters commands with web based/online access to information regarding accreditation and health care standards. To maintain accreditation readiness and compliance with TJC standards (DoDI 6025.13 as applicable), BUMED and its operational headquarters commands and Regions conduct on-going Medical Quality Assist Visit assessments of their components (e.g. ships and clinics) quality compliance using the tracer methodology. The TJC tool allows the ability to monitor unit findings and establish patterns of non-compliance and address barriers and gaps. This proactive approach to maintain accreditation readiness is greatly beneficial to Navy medicine operational clinical services sites in reducing the number of findings in all of the accreditation areas, environmental and point of care and identifying areas of improvement. The Joint Commission Resources is the training branch of TJC and the only source capable of offering this accreditation standards readiness tool. The versatility of the tracer tool satisfies the need of the ambulatory and the inpatient setting. In addition, the tool is available through the individual sites portal so there is no need for additional software or security concerns. This will reduce variation in the interpretation of the tracers findings and specifically identify standards requiring additional attention at the operational services unit level along with the determination of the severity of the findings. This will aid in the prioritization of activities and possible resources to correct the deficits prior to the survey or other quality assist visits.
