P-224 provides upgrades to the existing Pier 311 along with dredging, breakwater, causeway, utilities and storm drain improvements. P-226 includes additional dredging, fill, new pile-supported wharf, support buildings, fire pump, generators, and electrical communications. The scope of this project was developed using NAVFAC P-80 criteria based on providing ordnance loading operations for two Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers (DDG), one Arleigh Burke-class DDG and one Zumwalt-class DDG-1000, or one Landing Helicopter Assault/ Landing Helicopter Dock (LHA/LHD) amphibious assault ship without the requirement for an explosive safety exemption.
