The contractor shall receive a quantity of 38 panels from the NPS varying in size from 7” x 7” up to 12” x 10”. There are a total of 5 different shapes and a total of 8 plates within this body armor system. Two of the panels are single plates and the remaining three armor panel parts consist of qty 2 for inserts on the left and right side of the body. The constructed panels will require a backing material of 25 layers of DSM Dyneema HB212 initially pressed flat to 3000 psi at the contractor’s specified temperature and then reheated and pressed to match the required contours of the body armor panels (molds to shape fabric will be provided by NPS [The molds (total of 5) were machined at NPS and will be used to press the Dyneema fabric into the required shapes]. Once pressed, the contractor shall apply an adhesive to bond the UHMWPE to the back of the ceramic sphere system. The final process will incorporate a nylon wrap to the entire system.
