Class length: 2-3 days 2. # of Students: 20 3. Requirements: Class will be taught by highly experienced Electrical Engineer, Electronics Technician, and/or Military/Professional Diver with in depth knowledge in the design, fabrication, maintenance, and use of electrical/electronic systems underwater. Vendor will provide books, any required manuals, and teaching aids such as laptops, projectors, and demonstration equipment. Completion certificates will be provided to each student successfully completing all required phases of the course. 4. Description: Commercial and military use of electricity underwater includes welding, navigation, sensor systems, diver propulsion, ROVs, and numerous other electrically powered submersible systems. These systems present an inherent risk to diving personnel in the form of electrical shock which can disorient or debilitate the diver resulting in serious injury or death. This course will provide the students with an overview of the risks, proper design guidance, and failsafe requirements for developing and deploying submersible electrical systems. Students will learn: • Diving physiology with respect to electricity • Safe voltage, current, and standoff distance while using electricity underwater • Ramifications of DC, AC, and frequency • Safe design of grounded versus ungrounded systems • Requirements for electrical failsafe devices • Maintenance and testing requirements for submersible electrical systems • Application Scenarios to include: o Diving on tethered electrical systems o Diver carried electrical equipment o Wet welding, cutting, and burning o Electrically heated diving suits o Diver propulsion systems o Divers working with ROVs/UUVs o Battery and electronic enclosure design 5. Intended Audience: Practicing and aspiring Electrical Engineers, Technicians, and dive personnel who develop, maintain, and utilize submersible electrical systems. 6. Delivery Method: Expert lecture combined with open discussions and case studies. 7. Desired Delivery Timeframe: No later than March 31 2020
