This requirement is for the award of a firm fixed price (FFP) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract on a sole source basis for services in support of a US Navy Submarine’s Advanced Secondary Propulsion Units (ASPU). The proposed action will result in a new contract being awarded to Curtiss-Wright Electro-Mechanical Division, 1000 Wright Way Cheswick PA 15024-1356. This acquisition will be procured under the purview of FAR Part 6.302-1(a) (1); only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The Government’s minimum needs have been verified by the certifying technical and requirements personnel.This sole source procurement is authorized under Justification and Approval 21-07 JA and is available if requested. The requirement is for the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Curtiss-Wright Electro-Mechanical Division (EMD) to identify a corrosion inhibitive system for the Advanced Secondary Propulsion Unit (ASPU) motor that will mitigate the corrosion of the stator and rotor components. The goal of this corrosion inhibitive system is to, extend major motor overhauls from a 4-year to an 8-year cycle, and to significantly reduce maintenance/repair costs and associated schedule impacts of the ASPUs. The corrosion inhibitive system of the ASPUs is highly complex in design and is an integral part of a NAVSEA approved system configuration that was specifically designed and built for the Navy by Curtiss-Wright EMD. This presolicitation synopsis is released in accordance with FAR 5.2.
