The Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton (NAMRU-D) has a requirement which necessitates research support to execute a funded project examining the effects of workload on rates of SD as well as the efficacy of a novel training method to reduce rates of SD. NAMRU-D specializes in providing aeromedical research for the Department of Defense. A focus area of research involves studying causal factors and mitigation techniques for SD in fixed-wing aircraft. Human subjects research using the relevant population (i.e., pilots) is critical to ensuring that our research tasks and findings are relevant to the aviation community. Research must also utilize equipment and personnel with appropriate capability to safely and reliably produce the types of scenarios necessary to study the desired phenomena. NAMRU-D is in the process of preparing to start a funded study examining the impact of workload on rates of SD, along with a novel training method to reduce the risk of SD. The requirement is for human subjects research support to help ensure the timely completion of the project. The contractor must have the following qualities/capabilities: Have proven access to a population of active duty student and instructor fixed-wing pilots Have access to DoD facilities Be located within 50 miles of a T-45 or T-38 training squadron Have staff with a background in human subjects research, particularly using active duty military personnel as subjects Have staff with relevant expertise in cognitive performance, the effects of workload on performance, training, and/or visual attention Have staff with experience working with flight simulators Have staff with expertise in data analysis and reporting Have staff with knowledge of IRB regulations and requirements, including use and storage of data Have a medium fidelity flight simulator with a large field of view, capable of integrating custom scenarios and collecting eye tracking data Currently hosting a researcher with IPA status is strongly preferred
