Extend existing ASW piping, at the same height as the existing, from the end of the existing North side piping and around the Dry Dock 1 service tunnel to two new branch lines serving the balconies on the South side. The work includes the following and incidental related work: WALL PENETRATION WORK 1.1. Drill two holes through the Dry Dock 1 service tunnel out to the balcony to accommodate the 6” piping. Keep holes as small as possible. 1.2. After piping is installed and tested provide non-shrink grout around the 6” branch pipe holes. Grout will serve to provide support for the 6” balcony isolation valve. 1.3. After piping is installed and tested provide polyurethane, closed cell, foam in place, caulking to seal around all penetrations not sealed with grout. PIPING MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS 1.1. The basis of design piping is Aquatherm brand, blue pipe SDR-11 fasercomposite PP-R pipe. This is the existing type of piping and this project shall be compatible with this type of piping. 1.2. Provide and install flanged rubber expansion joints as indicated on the drawings. Expansion joints shall be capable of accommodating an expansion of a 75-degree temperature delta in the event that a steam leak in the tunnel occurs when the ASW system is off. Expansion joints shall meet the requirements of spec section 23 64 26, be compatible with piping manufacturer’s requirements and be rated for travelling the distance calculated for the temperatures stated above. 1.3. 10” valves shall be 316 stainless steel knife gate valves. 1.4. 6” valves shall be 316 stainless butterfly valves with stainless steel level locks for termination in the balcony. 1.5. All valves shall include 150# class flanges for servicing. 1.6. All mechanical and flanged joints should be made with stainless steel rings, fasteners and gaskets compatible with and per polypropylene-random (PP-R) pipe manufacturer’s requirements. 1.7. Provide and install cleanliness blank and small drain valve to cover the exposed side of the last gate valve. 1.8. Hangers and anchors shall be type 316 stainless steel. PIPING INSTALLATION 1.1. Make final connection to the existing ASW piping after the new section has passed pressure testing and the system has been flushed. At a minimum provide a 2 week notice before the final connection so that the proper ASW outage and coordination can be requested by Code 984 and the Dry Dock operations personnel. 1.2. Extend the existing ASW piping, at the same height, around the Dry Dock service tunnel as indicated on the drawings. 1.3. All PP-R piping connections shall be fused connections completed by a mechanic qualified in accordance with the manufacturer of the piping manufacturer utilizing the tooling required by manufacturer. Butt welded type connections are preferred. Electrically fused socket type connections shall also be accepted where necessary. Heat fusion shall be in accordance with ASTM F 2389. The intent is to reduce the number of bolted mechanical joints to areas where required only, such as valve and expansion joint connections. 1.4. Maximum spacing between hangers for basis of design 10” piping is 8’. Support piping per manufacturer’s requirements. 1.5. Provide and install two, closely spaced, wall hanger supports and fixed hangers at each of the three branch piping Tee’s. Branch piping locations shall beconsidered fixed. ASW PIPING TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE: 1.1. Hydrostatically test all piping installed under this contract. Perform testing per manufacturer’s instructions and per Spec Section 23 64 26. 1.2. After successfully meeting hydrostatic testing requirements, flush system as required to meet manufacturer’s recommendations.
