Request for Information for Steel for Navy 5-Inch and Army 105mm Cartridge Cases This Request for Information (RFI) is the initiation of market research under Part 10 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). This notice neither constitutes a Request for Proposal, nor does it restrict the Government from an ultimate acquisition approach. This notice should not be construed as a commitment by the Government for any purpose. Requests for solicitation will not receive a response. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part, any input as a result of this market survey. The U.S. Government is not obligated to notify respondents of the results of this survey. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a solicitation notice will be published. No award will be made as a result of this market survey. The Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) has a need to procure steel in support of manufacturing Naval 5-inch and Army 105mm Cartridge Cases at the Quad Cities Cartridge Case Facility (QCCCF) in Rock Island, IL. Given the composition of the steel, and the shortages brought on by COVID-19, obtaining raw material has been a challenge. The steel required is an impurity restricted chemistry of cold drawn AISI 1030 with additional grain size and cleanliness requirements in 11/16” thick sheet. Supplemental information related to the required steel is provided as supplemental information to this synopsis and will be distributed under US DoD Distribution Statement D. Please identify your Company’s CAGE Code if applicable. All interested sources shall provide a summary of their company’s ability to produce steel and meet requirements.
