The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) conducts research in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics, solar-terrestrial physics and atmospheric science. Satellites, rockets, and ground-based facilities are used to (a) obtain information on radiation from the sun and celestial sources, (b) study the behavior of the ionosphere and the upper and lower atmosphere, and (c) conduct research in support of these activities. The NRL has been selected by the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) to provide the Compact Coronagraph (CCOR) to provide operational space weather forecasts. CCOR is an instrument designed to image the solar corona in visible light. To meet the resource, environmental and operational requirements, the CCOR instrument incorporates an Active Pixel Sensor (APS) based on complementary metal oxide semiconductor technology similar to the Heliospheric Imagers provided to Solar Orbiter (SoloHI) and Wide Field Imager for Solar Probe Project (WISPR). The NRL intends to acquire APS detectors for the NRL WISPR instruments. The Contractor shall provide a set of flight and engineering model detectors for the CCCOR instrument supplied by the Solar and Heliospheric Physics Branch. The detectors will be fabricated using masks and a design of a previous NRL program.
