REVISED SPECS UNDERLINED IN BOLD I. Description of Requirement NRL Quantum Electro-Optics Section 5613 requires a complete, turn-key, stabilized laser system to transition recent quantum memory experiments towards a more scalable and versatile configuration with the use of Rydberg states. A turn-key system meaning laser, comb and all accessories are controlled from a central system or computer GUI where the laser parameters and locks can be implemented and diagnosed. The system has to be capable of 24h/7d operation within laboratory environment. The user interface has to feature an automatic lock of the comb to RF reference, remote locking of 480 nm laser and extension CW laser. The system will be assembled and characterized at the factory to verify specifications of the complete system. It will be shipped and reassembled to working order at NRL site and include on-site training. The complete unit will provide controls for all locks, system parameters and diagnostics from a computer GUI and the parameters must be accessible with external commands so that the system can be utilized in an experimental sequence suitable to operate a quantum memory. II. Performance Requirements Laser specification (CW frequency doubled laser at 480nm), QNTY: 1 CW frequency doubled (SHG) laser with 800 mW output power at the wavelengths of 473-481 nm • Output power at least 800 mW • Coarse tuning of 8 nm over 473—481 nm, with mode hop-free tuning greater than 15 GHz • Linewidth less than 100 kHz • Output power stabilization • Probe beam output at fundamental wavelength • High quality digital Pound-Drever-Hall stabilization of SHG resonator length with automatic relocking • Ability for fast frequency modulation of master laser (with protective circuit for laser diode) Frequency Comb Specification (Difference Frequency Comb), QNTY: 1 (with extension modules) Intrinsically stable frequency comb with passive, all-optical phase-lock, which inherently stabilizes fCEO and the carrier envelope phase. • 4 fCEO-free (offset-free) outputs at 1560 nm with power greater than 10 mW at each output • Bandwidth greater than 20 nm at each output • Stability (locked to RF reference): short-term at least 1x10-13 in 1 s • Stability (locked to Optical reference): short-term at least 8x10-18 in 1 s, long-term 5×10-20 in 1000 s • Wavelength extensions for non-linear conversion: o Supercontinuum output centered at 1475 nm with at least 200 nm bandwidth o NIR output at 780 nm with bandwidth >35 nm and output power at least 50 mW (to include 795 nm) o Output centered at (or to include) 960 nm with bandwidth at least 40 nm • Live frequency measurement of CW laser • Wavelength meter with measurement range 330 to 1180 nm and absolute accuracy sufficient for unambiguous determination of comb line order number. The wavelength meter must be capable of CW and pulsed laser measurement and must be fiber coupled. It must have an input for calibration laser and a stabilized HeNe-Laser must be included for calibration of the wavelength meter. Wavelength meter must have a computer interface and must be fully integrated into comb control software Control Electronics Control and locking electronics for the laser and frequency comb with beat-note detectors, counter and oscilloscope with spectrum analyzer Integrated specification Central control unit from a computerized central system or control GUI must: • allow control of the optical frequency comb operation and provide diagnostics and status • allow the full control of the laser, incl. locks, parameters and status • allow control of the wavelength meter • be capable of providing live frequency measurements of cw lasers • provide automatic calculation and plotting of Allan deviation from logged data The laser system must be capable of working with lasers currently in possession of Code 5613, namely Toptica DL Pro and Toptica TA Pro lasers. This means that the frequency comb part of the system will be able to lock those lasers, operating at 780 nm, 795 nm and 1474 nm, and set the absolute frequency of those lasers.
