The JM96 CCU-166/B impulse cartridge actuates a helicopter hoist cable cutter to cut and release a steel cable and its load in an emergency. The cartridge consists of a stainless steel case, an iron-nickel allow contact pin and a stainless steel cutting punch. One each of a bridgewire within the cartridge is attached to the contact pin and the other iend is attached to the cartridge case. The cutting punch has a circular cutting edge which severs a steel cable, when the cartridge is electrically actuated in an emergency by a switch in the pilot's compartment. The design and contour of the cutting punch is such that it wedges the severed reefed end of the cable in the cutter body.

The Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. The Government intends to solicit for the procurement of: NSN 1377-01-559-2164, JM96 Impulse Cartridge, CCU-166/B, CH-46/47. The government possesses the data necessary to manufacture the item. All responsible sources may identify their interest and provide capability statements in response to this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all responses received prior to the closing date of this sources sought notice will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete with this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Approval of a source may be required and WSS will not delay award while Source Approval is pending.
