Nuclear-Powered Submarine Material Harvesting and Refurbishment
The Navy is conducting market research for a potential future Multiple-Award IDIQ contract for harvesting and refurbishing components from nuclear-powered submarines, with a base ordering period of five years and five option years. Harvesting would occur at various U.S. naval shipyards and bases, while refurbishment would take place at the contractor's own facilities. The work is categorized into two tiers: Lot 1 for critical safety systems requiring strict NAVSEA Note 5000 compliance (like SUBSAFE) and Lot 2 for non-critical systems. The scope includes reutilization, repair, and refurbishment of harvested material to a serviceable condition, along with obsolescence management and reverse engineering. The government will provide the harvested material as Government Furnished Property, for which the contractor must maintain full traceability and accountability.
