Services are required to maintain continuous data collection, monitoring and tracking in order to better understand the species (Sea Turtles) movements and habitat use, and strandings as they occur. Sea turtles are State and federally protected species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Marine mammals are also federally protected via the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA). Both work requirements assist the Natural Resources Section in proactively managing these resources to support the recruit training mission per the Depot’s Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan and MCO 5090.2, Volume 11 – Natural Resources Management.
