KC135 Life Raft Securing Device
The KC-135 fleet lacks engineering-approved, standardized restraints for critical life-saving equipment, with forward-left and forward-aft raft stowage areas using non-standard field-expedient tie-downs that risk evacuation delays and unverified crashworthiness. To reduce safety risk while minimizing cost and scope, the aft-right hatch raft position will be eliminated from the aircraft configuration. The effort seeks to develop and implement a field-level Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) to standardize and modify the remaining forward-left and forward-aft raft positions. The modification must replicate the robust, hard-mounted strap design currently used at the aft-left hatch location.
