DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: The Scope of Work for this project includes the construction of the following four project features: (A) Install three (3) proposed L 67 A levee structures; S-631, S-632, and S-633. Each structure location will have two (2) 6’ x 6’ gated box culverts equipped with dewatering apparatus features. Each box culvert will have a vertical lift gate that can be operated remotely. Power for the lift gates will be provide by an on-site propane generator housed in a concrete building. (B) Removal of the existing spoil islands directly to the northwest of the proposed S-631 and S-632 structure locations on the opposite site of the L-67A canal. (C) Excavate a 3000’ gap within the L-67 C levee to convey water from WCA 3A to WCA 3B; (D) Backfill the existing east-west agricultural ditch between the L 67 A and L 67 C levees. Backfill material will be generated on site by using the east-west agricultural ditch spoil pile located on the north side of the ditch. In addition, material from excavating the 3000’ gap and spoil islands are other sources of backfill material. Any excess excavated material will be disposed of by filling in a portion of the L-67A Extension canal. Refer to the attached draft plan sheets for orientation of the project features. Location of Project The CEPP Contract 1 project is located in western Miami-Dade County, between WCA-3A and WCA-3B, west of C-111, north of the Tamiami Trail (US-41). See the attached draft plans for location and vicinity maps. Specific Project Challenges The structures S-631, S-632, and S-633 are proposed to be constructed on the existing L-67A levee with the project, with a limited vehicular access for materials, equipment, or labor. The construction access to the project site will be from US Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail) by S-333 along L-67A and L-67C levees. The northern access is from S-9 Pump Station or by Everglades Holiday Park along the L-67A Canal. The contractor will be required to access the west side of the L-67A canal, adjacent to S-631 and S-632, to remove existing spoil islands on the west side of the canal. Access and removal of the spoil material will require working from a barge on the L-67A canal’s western edge of water. The contractor will also be required to fill an existing agricultural ditch that travels east west between the L-67A and L-67C. Environmental Conditions Contractor is required to remain within the construction limits in order to minimize wetland impacts. Plans and Specifications Attached are Draft Plans of this project for industry consumption prior to Industry Day. Draft specifications may be added to this posting on a later date.
