The Department of Defense (DOD) established the Office of Military Commissions (OMC) in 2001 to conduct Military Commissions proceeding of detainees being held for crimes against the United States at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (NSGB). The commission tries accused alien unprivileged enemy belligerents who have engaged in hostilities, or who have purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States, its coalition partners, or was a part of Al Qaeda.
