As Base Support is anticipated, this effort shall provide, primarily on-site in the AFRL/Materials & Manufacturing Directorate’s Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) if requested, materials characterization research of aerospace materials of interest to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The contractor shall also develop tools, software, digitization/automation and techniques to advance the state of the art in electron, x-ray, ion, a15nd optical microscopy as it pertains to materials characterization and microanalysis. The contractor shall also foster research collaborations with other relevant facilities off-site for highly specialized/niche characterization areas of interest to AFRL. The contractor shall prepare authoritative reports, papers, presentations, technical data, and best practices guidance for the purposes of assisting the USAF and USSF to assess new optical technologies, performance characteristics thereof, and relative performance within proposed mission, installation, and cost.
