This effort seeks to develop a 1-3x size CMC inlet/isolator capable of uncooled, full-life, single cycle operation at Mach 5 or greater, using production-scalable processes with a clear path to at-rate manufacturing. The contractor should: establish performance, affordability, and fabricability goals; fabricate, characterize, and test coupons, sub-elements, representative shapes, and sub-components to fill in gaps in the existing database and help show that the proposed material and fabrication approach will meet performance, affordability, and fabricability goals as required; design the inlet/isolator and fabricate, characterize, and test representative elements as appropriate; employ modeling and simulation to predict the thermo-mechanical performance prior to manufacturing and use the post manufacturing testing to evaluate the effectiveness of the predictions; accomplish a Manufacturing Readiness Assessment; fabricate and evaluate full-scale test hardware; and perform representative component level validation testing such as direct connect and free jet tests.
