The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Advanced Power Technology Office (APTO) has a need to improve the U.S. Air Force’s ability to provide energy resiliency at Kirtland AFB. This program shall enhance the use of Direct Current (DC) microgrid capability at the Kirtland AFB as well as offer learning/innovation/solutions to installations across the Air Force and DoD enterprises. The DC Microgrid will be made up of a grid that includes some set of DC on-site generation, DC distribution, DC energy storage, and enable DC consumption. It will also interface with the existing Alternating Current (AC) grid/systems. This APTO program will demonstrate through testing the DC microgrid energy system’s ability to interface with the current utility AC grid.
