The Contractor shall work daily with government scientists and engineers to conduct research and development in the area of advanced ceramic and composite materials and process development, and assist with operation of AFRL/RXC laboratories at WPAFB, OH, to address USAF and USSF needs in: 1. Ceramic precursor synthesis and processing, including the synthesis and processing of precursors via organic, colloidal, and solid-state routes leading to both oxide and non-oxide ceramic materials for use as constituents in structural ceramics and composites. 2. Novel ceramic monolithic and fiber-reinforced ceramic design, processing, and fabrication, to meet a host of high-temperature, damage tolerant application requirements. Most of the activity shall focus on continuous fiber-reinforced ceramics to applications in extreme environments; 3. Characterization and evaluation of microstructure and properties; 4. Develop and understanding of materials behavior and performance in laboratory and simulated service environments; 5. Perform modeling to evaluate and predict processing behavior. 6. Perform modeling to evaluate and predict behavior and performance from the constituent to the composite system level.
