The Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Systems Support Division (AFRL/RXS) located at Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB) is in the planning stage for a program to provide quick reaction chemical analyses of Air Force materials using instrumental and chemical techniques. These evaluations are of materials in the field of electronics, materials, structures, and environmental and alternative energy systems essential for supporting mishap investigations, root cause, and failure analysis. The materials to be analyzed include, but are not limited to, organic compounds, polymers, metal alloys, aircraft fluids, lubricants, and failed parts from Air Force and DoD systems requiring a chemical analysis to determine their identity, chemical nature, and conformance to specifications. Chemical analysis of foreign materials or contaminants that may be present on or within any sample provided that could be critical in the investigation process will also need to be identified to the fullest extent possible. The program shall be responsive to a wide variety of Air Force customers, including air logistics centers (ALCs), field units, acquisition offices, and other AFRL organizations, and key outside organizations to meet mission goals
