RFP Amemdmet 0001 has been issued. This acquisition is for the services required to sustain the current performance of the C-17 TAWS tool and the quality of the C-17 TAWS DB used by both the United States Air Force (USAF) and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) C-17 fleets. These services include maintenance and support of all existing and fielded C-17 TAWS Tool software products and Annual DB outputs. The C-17 TAWS Tool is an operationally fielded stand-alone tool used to create terrain (e.g., mountain) and obstruction (e.g., building) flight maps from data provided by the National Geo- spatial Agency (NGA). These maps are uploaded to the C-17 avionics where the user is able to visualize objects on the glass cockpit display that could impact missions during low level flight. The C-17 TAWS tool is solely used for military purposes within the US DoD and would thus not be considered a commercial item as defined in FAR Part 2. The RFP for this acquisition will result in a 10 year contract consisting of a one-year basic and nine one-year options. The inclusion of options will not obligate the Government to exercise them.
