The Air Force's inventory of RCU model Z-ANP is used to remotely control VINSON/ANDVT crypto units on aircraft and is logistically unsupportable and cannot be modified. RCUs were designed in the 1970s, fielded in the 1980s and have been out of production since 1993. Components are no longer manufactured or maintained. The RCU is a non-cryptographic user interface device, consisting of a metal case containing two printed circuit boards connected via a flex cable. The user connects the device to an airframe system via external connectors and controlled by various switches and knobs on the front.
