BACKGROUND: This requirement is to provide a fit/function replacement for legacy asset, Stage 1 Flight Control Unit (FCU) Battery for the Minuteman (MM) III Missile which is used on the MMIII Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). DESCRIPTION: The current Stage 1 FCU Battery is a remote activated silver-oxide zinc (AgZn) chemistry battery. The Government intends to pursue a thermal battery chemistry design in place of the existing silver-oxide zinc chemistry. The USAF anticipates releasing a Request for Proposal (RFP) in the month of October 2024, but no less than 15 days from the posting of this Pre-solicitation. SCOPE: Under the scope of this effort, the contractor shall develop a thermal battery for the Stage 1 FCU, conduct a Qualification test sequence, and following successful completion, provide initial spares and possible future deliverable assets to replenish the stock system inventory through the end of life for MMIII.
