The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Hill Air Force Base is conducting market research to identify specialized freight carriers for a turnkey “Transport-as-a-Service” solution for highly secure, climate-controlled HAZMAT cargo. The Government is assessing a commercial transportation service as a lower-cost alternative to a full Engineering & Manufacturing Development program, with attached documents outlining performance requirements and industry questions. Key areas of interest include HAZMAT transport licensing and experience, a driver pool with active DoD Secret clearances, climate-controlled and redundantly powered fleet capabilities, and sufficient liability/cargo insurance for high-value national assets. Interested parties are asked to review the attachments and provide written feedback addressing all questions, which will help determine the feasibility of a service-based acquisition and finalize acquisition strategy.
