PURPOSE: To remove four items of industrial machining equipment from the Training Devices Shop at the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) and transport them to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), previously known as Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) located on Fort Carson and to place one milling machine into the Training Devices Shop. BACKGROUND: The Dean of Faculty at USAFA is converting an unused machine shop space into a functional work shop for cadets to utilize. It requires large and heavy equipment to be removed from the facility and transported 14 miles to the designated turn-in location. One new mill that is currently located outside the training devices machine shop next to the bay door needs to be moved into the space. DESCRIPTION: The old machining equipment needs to be moved across room 1J2 located on the west side of Fairchild Hall on the 1st floor; 90 feet of flat surface, up a ramp that is 12 feet long with an 8 degree incline, through a 95”H x 112”W bay door, across a 16 foot flat sidewalk, and down a ramp that is 16 feet long with a 6 degree decline to the road where it can then be loaded for transport. The new mill will need to be moved through the bay door and down the 12 foot ramp at an 8 degree decline, across 60 feet of flat surface inside the shop. All machines have been drained and chemically tested to confirm they do not contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The machines to be removed and transported with dimensions and weights are: 1. A 20 inch Engine Lathe manufactured by Axelson, model unknown, 11'11" long, 5'1" wide, 4'9" tall, 7200lbs. 2. A 27 inch Engine Lathe manufactured by Southbend lathe Inc, model 27” Turn-nado, 13'11" long, 3'8" wide, 5'4" tall, 7200lbs. 3. A Surface Grinding Machine manufactured by Thompson, model Bitem#5 8'2" long, 5'7" wide, 7' tall, 8000lb. 4. A Sheet Metal Brake manufactured by Roper Whitney Co model 1014A 11'9" long, 2'10"wide, 4'1" tall, 2000lbs. The new mill to be moved into the training devices shop is an OMEGA CNC Knee Mill, Model KV3NC 84"H x 75"W x 62"D as it is on the pallet at 3600lbs. SCOPE: Provide and operate all required rigging equipment for removal, transport, and placement of all machines. Ensure no damage to the machines, facilities, or surrounding areas occurs during the movement of the machines. Deliver all machines to be transported to Fort Carson DRMO Turn-In, Bldg 324, Wickersham Blvd, Fort Carson, CO 80902 at their designated date and time. CERTIFICATION: Vendors must be certified in glass removal and operating high capacity machinery/moving equipment as required to complete this scope of work. Insurance to cover damage to the machines, facilities, or surrounding areas must be provided. INSPECTION: The contractor shall inspect for 100% compliance in accordance with this SOW prior to final inspections from The Dean of Faculty Engineering Division Leadership, Applied Mechanics Laboratory Leadership, and Fairchild Hall Facilities Manager. PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE: All work must be accomplished by 30 October 2023.
