The purpose of this project is to renovate Building 1346 to correct the lack of radiation protection from the X-Ray Vault, restore fire protection in some maintenance rooms, and construct a mechanical room add-on to house new fire suppression pumping. Work shall include architectural, structural, mechanical, fire protection and electrical work, as well as abatement of a minor amount of hazardous material. The architectural scope of this project is related to the X-Ray Vault, Rooms 109, 110 and 111, and in the cold storage area to the plan-east portion of the building, where a new Fire Pump Room will be constructed. In the X-Ray Vault, the walls and ceiling will be modified with appropriate lead-lined materials in order to eliminate penetration of x-ray scatter during operations. In Rooms 109, 110 and 111, selective demolition and installation of new gypsum ceiling will take place to accommodate new fire suppression systems. In the cold storage area, on the corner nearest the mechanical room, a mech room addition will be constructed to accommodate the new function of fire suppression via pumping from a new domestic water line, featuring exterior access and 1-hour fire rated walls. The structural scope of work of this project primarily has to do with the fire pump room. A new structural slab will replace the old slab on which the fire pump room will be built. Also, building structural components shall be modified to accommodate the construction of exterior access to the new fire pump room. The mechanical scope of this project is related to the X-Ray Vault and new Fire Pump Room. In the X-Ray Vault, mechanical systems shall be replaced or modified (as annotated in project drawings) to eliminate x-ray scatter penetration. Because of the construction of the new Fire Pump Room, modifications to existing plumbing and heating systems and piping shall take place, whether it be relocation or replacement - these are annotated in the project documents). Because of the addition of a unit heater and ventilation fan for the Fire Pump Room, the DDC controls will be modified to accommodate these new systems. The fire protection scope of this project is primarily related to the addition of the new Fire Pump Room (also including its pump, and PVF), and restoration and/or modernization of fire suppression in Rooms 109, 110 and 111, X-Ray Vault, X-Ray Room and Dark Room. The electrical scope of this project is related to service for the new fire pump, lighting for the new Fire Pump Room, and removal and restoration of existing electrical systems. Minimal abatement of hazardous materials shall be performed per the project drawings and specifications, as the only contaminated material is in the exterior caulking of the existing building. Construction schedule shall be standard working hours as is authorized by the government: Monday thru Friday, 7AM to 4:30PM. IAW FAR 36.204--Disclosure of the Magnitude of Construction Projects, the estimated price for this projet is Between $250,000 and $500,000.
