Lightning Protection Systems (LPS) - Personnel

Total Small Business Set-Aside (FAR 19.5)
Notice ID:FA480926W0079

The project involves performing a site survey, data collection, and a detailed Lightning Risk Assessment for a Lightning Protection System (LPS) on aircraft parking ramps at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. The assessment aims to determine if a system can ensure a safe working environment for personnel during local lightning events, allowing uninterrupted critical aircraft maintenance. A key objective is to eliminate the current requirement for personnel to take cover when lightning is within a five-mile radius. While an LPS exists for equipment and facilities, this new system focuses specifically on protecting personnel on the flight line. The resulting risk assessment will help the Government evaluate whether the LPS can reduce or eliminate the lightning hazard for maintenance personnel.
