The 5th Contracting Squadron, Minot Air Force Base (MAFB), North Dakota awarded a sole source contract, FA452824P0055, on 14 May 2024 in the amount of $309,400.00 to Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc. for the acceptance and disposal of soil contaminated with Jet-A fuel and PFAS. Sawyer Landfill Facility, operated by Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc., is the only facility within 100 miles of MAFB that can accept the required type (Jet-A fuel and PFAS) and tonnage of contaminated soil. Since the service involves MAFB personnel physically taking the soil to the disposal site, sole source awarding was determed to be in the Government's best interest to contain project costs, meet interagency-coordinated timelines, and mitigate contamination risk to the surrounding environment during transport.
