The purpose of this requirement is to provide the 502 SFS (Fort Sam Houston) with 21-star barrier sets and 802 SFS (Lackland AFB) with 23-star barrier sets for posted sentries at JBSA installation gates, to significantly deter adversaries from attacking JBSA. Each STAR barrier shall be a 2-piece unit, secured with a padlock, and have three steel spikes specifically designed to stop a threat vehicle. The barriers can be used individually, or the padlocks can be used to connect the units to create a 2-, 3-, and or multi-star barrier.
