Purchase of DS-Fiber Multiplexers Phase-III for 66 ABG/SC. Requirement: Utilize fiber multiplexers to meet growing communication requirements for NIPRNet, SIPRNet, AFnet, program management offices (PMO) (i.e., JSTAR Recap, AFWA , AWACS & BITI), fire, and security alarms. Shortfall: Key cable conduits are often shared resources with Civil Engineering have reached capacity. This will hinder future fiber cable runs for redundancy of AFNET, fire, and security alarms. Mission Impact: The conduits servicing major PMO buildings have reached capacity and spares are no longer available for future growth of PMO requirements. Also, the SIPRNET DISA node conduits are over taxed and services to outside Air Force customers in the New England area is unsupportable for future growth. Justification: Key cable conduits are shared resources with Civil Engineering have reached capacity. Installing fiber multiplexerss a low cost solution as oppose to installing additional conduit and fiber. Technical Solution: Design involves seven fiber multiplexers in a redundant node ring configuration with buildings 1624, 1614, 1302 and 1107 as the nodes.
