The Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), Military Satellite Communications Systems (MILSATCOM) Directorate (MC), Los Angeles Air Force Base, California hereby issues this Request for Information. Unless a respondent takes exception, the Government intends to provide industry with the company names of all respondents to this Request for Information. This solicitation is an update to an RFI posted on 17 January 2019 under the same title. Respondents who did not submit for the previous RFI are eligible to submit to this solicitation. Respondents who did submit for the previous RFI are expected to revise their submissions as necessary. Updates are highlighted in yellow throughout this document. The Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS) program is the follow-on to the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) Satellite program and will be the next generation of protected communication satellites. ESS is interested in the possible development of new space-qualified communications payload End Cryptographic Units (ECUs). ECUs may require new ESS specific algorithms as will be prescribed by the National Security Agency (NSA). SMC/MC is considering two separate acquisitions. The first acquisition is for the ESS payload ECUs. The second acquisition is for acquiring an ESS Strategic Test Terminal (ST2) ECU for use in its test terminal asset. The ESS program would like to understand if there are synergies between these two developments.
