DARPA is interested in developing new, innovative methods and space-based technologies that may provide warfighters disruptive Space Superiority options. Programs of Record in this technology area frequently involve lengthy procurement and development timelines, large budgets, large form-factor host satellites (as opposed to “ridealong” small satellites), and do not incorporate the latest innovations from the booming commercial “new space” industry. This paradigm limits the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) ability to rapidly procure and employ innovative technology to enable flexible and proliferated Space Superiority.
